As KARO CORN SYRUP www.karosyrup.com has come to define “corn syrup” in the US market through the entire 20th century, so
too have Crown® and BeeHive® set the same standard in Canada.

Crown Brand Golden Corn Syrup was first registered for use in 1900
by The Edwardsburg Starch Company Limited changing to The Canada Starch Company Limited in 1913. This ownership remained intact until 1998 when BestFoods Canada Inc. assumed ownership. Unilever acquired BestFoods in 2000 with the subsequent sale of Crown
to ACH Food Companies, Inc. in 2002.

Crown® Golden Corn syrup has been a staple ingredient in Canadian kitchen cupboards ever since. Corn syrup usage in North America peaked in the 50’s when corn syrup was extensively used as a nutritional supplement in baby formula and an energy food. A major contributor to this usage was the long advertising and promotional relationship with the Dionne quintuplets who were born in 1934 in Callander, Ontario. Surprisingly, there is historical evidence that all
of the major corn syrup brands at that time… Crown®, BeeHive®
and Karo advertised that the Dionne quintuplets used their brand
of corn syrup.

Crown® Golden Corn Syrup was the preferred brand in Quebec, Atlantic Canada and BC. It has a slightly different taste than BeeHive® with a milder molasses flavour, but a similar golden colour.
