Ingredients:
Cake Batter:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup Mazola Vegetable Oil
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/3 cups buttermilk
Maple Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 3 Tbsp unsalted Butter, room temperature
- 1 cup full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
- 2-4 Tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 10-12 strawberries, sliced
Instructions:
- Preheat the BBQ to 325F. Prepare a 9×13 metal cake pan with oil/butter.
- Make the cake batter by whisking together butter and Mazola Vegetable Oil until smooth, then whisking in sugar until fluffy. Whisk in eggs and vanilla then add in the sifted dry ingredients and buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
- Once the BBQ is preheated, before adding the cake, turn off the burners that you will place the cake over to avoid burning the bottom. You may need to adjust the other burners to keep the temperature at 325F. Bake for 20-30 mins until golden brown. Remove and let cool. Whisk together all ingredients for the frosting and spread over the cooled cake. Decorate with sliced strawberries to form the Canadian flag.
